Underground electrical fire knocks out power in Rittenhouse Square

An underground electrical fire knocked out power to parts of the city's Rittenhouse Square section early Monday morning.

Fire crews responded to a fire around 1:00 a.m. on 18th Street near Walnut Street.

Residents reported smoke coming from under manhole covers in the area.

The blaze was quickly placed under control with no injuries.

PECO crews were called to the scene to make repairs and get the power back on.

18th Street is closed at the location and commuters should expect delays.
