Tip jar thief sought by police in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - July 5, 2013

It was around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday June 9 when the suspect purchased ice cream at Sweet Lucy's, located at 3201 Concord Pike.

According to police, after purchasing the ice cream the man left the ice cream shop, only to return a short time later complaining that his ice cream had melted due to how long it took to process his order. He then demanded free ice cream.

After being denied free ice cream, the man allegedly threatened the employees, but then said he would purchase more ice cream. While the employees were preparing the man's new order, he allegedly reached into the tip jar on the sales counter and removed the cash inside.

Police say the suspect used part of the stolen money to pay for the ice cream, and then left the store with the remainder of the cash.

The suspect is described as a black male, 35-40 years old, standing approximately 6' tall and weighing 200 pounds.

If you recognize this man you are asked to contact Delaware State Police at 302-761-6677 extension 328, or by dialing 1-800-TIP-3333.
