Frigid temps blamed for at least 2 deaths in Delaware County

PHILADELPHIA - January 23, 2014

Autopsies have confirmed two of the three deaths in Delaware County were caused by hypothermia.

67-year-old Allan Jamison died in the backyard of his home in Swarthmore.

92-year-old Alice Brown of Secane was found dead on a sidewalk in Ridley Township.

The medical examiner says both died of weather related causes.

Authorities are investigating whether the frigid temperatures may have been responsible for the death of another person in the Philadelphia area.

Police said a 30-year-old man was found outside on the 900 block of Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia block just before 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead a half-hour later.

A ruling on the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Philadelphia medical examiner's office.

Delaware County authorities are also trying to determine if a 87-year-old man's death may have been related to the weather.

Police in Ridley Township say the man had Alzheimer's disease and may have died while wandering outside in the bitterly cold snowstorm Tuesday night.

The Delaware County coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
