Officers attacked while responding to Pottstown shooting

POTTSTOWN, Pa. - February 2, 2014

The shooting occurred at the Montgomery Elks Lodge 1271 around 2:40 a.m. Sunday on the 600 block of Walnut Street.

Arriving police found one person outside suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

As officers assisted the shooting victim, a crowd from inside the lodge came outside. Police say people from the crowd attacked the two officers.

A bystander came to the assistance of the officers. Other agencies also responded to the scene and helped.

The shooting victim and two Pottstown police officers were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Chad Watson and Brooklyn Aiken, both of Pottstown, were arrested for the officer assault.

As for the shooting, police do not believe it was random. The name of the suspect and victim have not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
