The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at 40th and Poplar streets.
The shooting took place outside H&H Daycare and Learning Center.
Action News is told 40 children were inside the center when gunfire erupted on the street.
A half dozen shots were fired.
While no one in the daycare center was injured, two people were shot.
A bullet struck a 20-year-old man in the head. He was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead.
Another man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound in the leg.
Parents were able to pick up their children at the center without incident.
Police have no suspects or witnesses as of this time.
