Police: Man assaults 3 plus cop at Wawa

NEWARK, Del. - April 2, 2014

George Johnson, 27, of Wilmington was spotted by a man and a woman. They told police he was arguing with a passenger in a car in the parking lot of the Wawa convenience store at 601 Ogletown Road in Newark on Tuesday evening.

The pair told police Johnson approached them when they came out of the store, called the woman an expletive, punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground. The man then started a struggle with Johnson.

A Newark Police Officer, who was on patrol at the time, saw the struggle between Johnson and the woman's co-worker. The officer radioed for help, according to police, and that's when Johnson ran over and punched the officer in the head and knocked him down.

Yet another passerby came to help the officer, and Johnson punched the man in the face, according to the police report.

The officer then pulled his Taser and ordered Johnson to the ground. Johnson eventually complied and was handcuffed without further incident, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Johnson faces assault, harassment, criminal mischief, drug disorderly conduct charges. He was locked up until he posted bail.

All of the victims suffered cuts and bruises from the altercations.
