Woman rescued from Wilmington apartment fire

WILMINGTON - April 13, 2014

Crews were called out to the 1400 block of Gilpin Avenue around 6:00 a.m. Sunday for the report of a fire on the first floor of a three-story apartment building.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and rescued a woman from the apartment where the fire started.

The victim was rushed to Christiana Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. There was no immediate word on her condition.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.

Several residents have been temporarily displaced.

The incident remains under investigation by the city fire marshal's office.
