Lisa Thomas Laury reports on a group dedicated to having fun over 50.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Lisa Thomas Laury takes a look at a society known as the "The Red Hatters" is this week's Art of Aging series.

The group is about having fun over 50, while making life-long friendships in the process.

The society takes its name from a poem by Jenny Joseph called "Warning."

Some of the "Red Hatters" recited a line from the poem for Action News.

"When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple and a red hat.."

Janice Slaughter, the Red Hat Ambassador and Queen of Somali Roses says, "The mission is just to have fun..."

The society meets once a month and participates in activities as a group to stay active and social.

'We go to plays, dinner and we go to shows and the museum," says Slaughter.

Member, Delores Dunbar added, "It's just something to look forward to if you're over 50. It's a lot of fun because we have a good time.

We can still kick but maybe not as high," she laughs.

The "Red Hatters," also known as the "Red Hat Society," is a social organization that was founded in 1998 for women age 50 and beyond.
