The couple who claimed their newborn baby was swapped at birth and sold to traffickers has been reunited with their son.

Richard and Mercedes Cushworth who now live in Texas, delivered the baby in the mother's home country of El Salvador in May.

The mother says she initially became suspicious when she noticed the features of her newborn differed from the baby she was handed just a day later.

The couple decided to have a DNA test done three months later, which revealed their son Jacob was not theirs.

"This is a lifelong injury that's very very deep and it's horrible," said Cushworth.

A judge ordered the couple to switch children with the family that took home their real son.

Both babies have been returned to their birth parents.

Authorities are prosecuting the doctor who allegedly made the switch.
