Police ID 2 killed in head-on crash with school bus in Burlington County

SOUTHAMPTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Police have released the identities of two men who were killed when a car and a school bus collided in Burlington County, New Jersey.

The crash happened around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pemberton and Ridge roads in Southampton Township.

State police say a Volkswagen Passat driven by 49-year-old Michael Razzano, of Browns Mills, collided head-on with a bus carrying 20 members of the Lenape High School swim team.

Razzano and his passenger, 41-year-old Sean McNaughton, of Medford, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Bouquets of flowers were left by family of the two men on Wednesday.

"I came out and I heard all the sirens, I went out front and there were ambulances, sirens, people all over the place so it was pretty scary," Councilman Bill Raftery of Southampton, NJ said.

The bus was heading east on the rural road near the Davis Dairy Farm when police say, Razzano's car, speeding and passing other vehicles, came around a curve; they say it crossed the center line and slammed into the bus.

Eight students and an adult were taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The school district released a statement saying the injuries to students and staff are not serious.

Word of the accident spread prompting several tweets of support including one from Cherry Hill High School.

Neighbors say the stretch of road seems to invite speeders and there have been a number of accidents here over the years, many of them fatal.

Councilman Raftery says this is the fourth fatality in just the last four years.

State police say they are continuing their investigation into this fatal crash.
