A boy remains in critical condition after he nearly drowned in a backyard pool.

WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- An 8-year-old boy from Winslow Township, Camden County remains in critical condition after he nearly drowned in a backyard pool.

The child was pulled from the water on Scenic View Drive on Tuesday night.

While investigators work to determine the circumstances, on Thursday the 911 calls were released.

In the recording you can hear the frantic efforts to save the boy's life.

You hear operator ask the caller - the boyfriend of the boy's mother - whether they know how to perform CPR.

She talks them through it, step by step, as an ambulance makes its way to the home.

The child was rushed to Kennedy University Hospital. He was then transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Authorities have not explained the circumstances of his near-drowning.
