5-year-old calls 911, saves mother's life
Lucy Yang has the story.

QUEENS, N.Y. (WPVI) -- A 5-year-old girl in Queens, New York, came to the rescue of her mother who was having a seizure.

Kids know how to call 911, but a 5-year-old when her mom is unconscious? She's a hero.

"I called 911," said Isabella Rodriguez.

Five-year-old Isabella saved her mother's life.

Last Wednesday, mother and daughter were in their bedroom. Isabella was doing her homework, when her mother suddenly collapsed.

"She fell on the floor. It made me cry," Isabella said.

Despite her panic, the little kindergartner knew exactly what to do.

"Mommy wake up," Isabella said.

While her mother was suffering an epileptic seizure, Isabella gathered all her courage and called for help.

"My mom is shaking. She's on the floor. She's moving her eyes," Isabella said to the 911 operator.

Despite her tears and fears, Isabella stayed on the phone with 911 until help arrived.

"My mom had a seizure. I need help," Isabella said to the operator.

Isabella was able to give her address, and her mother was rushed to the hospital.

Once Maria Giraldo regained consciousness, the first thing they told her was about her daughter.

"I'm blessed to have this little girl in my life," Giraldo said. "I'm blessed."

"I think I'm a hero," Isabella said when asked.

The little hero will turn 6 years old this weekend. So there is a lot to celebrate in this family!
