WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A serious crash slowed traffic on the Atlantic City Expressway near the Camden County and Gloucester County line.
It happened before 7:30 a.m. Monday between exits 41 and 44 in Washington Township.
Police say a driver going east struck another vehicle, sending it into a guard rail.
The striking vehicle then jumped the guard rails over the grassy median and crashed into a commercial pickup truck in the westbound lanes.
There was major damage to two of the vehicles, and debris was strewn across the highway.
But police say the occupants escaped with just minor injuries.
Some drivers changed their plans or looked for alternates routes to avoid the back-ups in both directions.
"We were on our way down to do a job in Wildwood," said Kevin Flaherty of Sicklerville, "and we heard there was a really bad accident, so we went through Deptford instead."
"I was just thinking this morning it was your normal people coming back from the shore, Monday morning traffic," said Craig Costenbader of Washington Township, "until I saw helicopters up there and figured it was something more."
Police continue to investigate the crash. There was no immediate word if any charges would be filed.
