PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Mildred Baez recalls the moment she heard her 13-year-old daughter Diamond Santiago had been shot.

"I didn't know what to do, I just started screaming," said Baez.

Police said Santiago was visiting her stepfather on May 29 in the 3500 block of Stouton Street in the city's Port Richmond section when two people opened fire.

The teenager was hit in the stomach. The bullet ripped apart several of her internal organs.

"She's got to go back for another surgery. She's had seven surgeries in total," said Baez.

Santiago's sister was present at the time of the shooting, but Baez said her descriptions of the suspects are vague.

"She just said they were dark skinned, they had hoodies covering their face, and they were just running so fast so it was hard to determine who they were," said Baez.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $6,000 reward. The Fraternal Order of Police is offering $5,000 of that just for information that leads to an arrest.

After three months in the hospital, Santiago is back home, but her pain and recovery are far from over.

"They said she will be between 95 to 100 percent back to normal," said Baez. "It's just going to take time, you know, it's just step by step," said Baez.
