POINT BREEZE -- More than a year after her son's murder in Philadelphia's Point Breeze neighborhood, a mother is hoping a hefty reward will help in the search for answers.

"Carl was a happy, outgoing young man. He had his whole life ahead of him," said Valerie Burgess, mother.

Her 35-year-old son Carl had just gotten off work on May 30, 2013. He headed to his home in Philadelphia's Point Breeze section.

"He went to his grandmother's where he lived in the 1500 block of Ringgold," said Burgess.

Just before 11 p.m. the father of three decided to take a walk with his oldest daughter.

Down the street, his daughter went to a neighbor's house and shortly after police were called for a double shooting.

Carl and another man were both found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Carl died at the hospital. The other victim survived but according to Carl's mother, he hasn't been very helpful to investigators.

"It's been a year and no one having come forth yet - so it's like we're back to square one. It makes me feel angry - it's like it changed my whole life it's like I'm not happy anymore. We have no closure and all we want is closure, we just want to know what happened," said Burgess.

The City of Philadelphia is offering up to $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

All you have to do is call the Citizens Crime Commission tip line at 215-546-TIPS (8477). All calls will remain anonymous.
