HUNTING PARK (WPVI) -- A Catholic school in Philadelphia's Hunting Park section has a new library thanks to a fund honoring a fallen policeman.
Officer Danny Boyle was killed 23 years ago in the line of duty, but his memory lives on with a stunning library and a scholarship fund.
When Patrick Boyle unveiled a picture of his son, the moment was bittersweet.
Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Boyle was only 21 when he lost his life in the line of duty in 1991. But a scholarship fund his family established in his memory has helped thousands of children since then, and today allowed Saint Veronica School to open a refurbished library, named for the fallen officer.
Danny didn't go to Saint Veronica, but his father did, and the police department veteran is on the board of the independent Catholic school.
With the help of the scholarship fund and volunteers there are new books and furniture, a fresh coat of paint. Along the way the school approached the Boyles about naming it the Officer Daniel Boyle Library Media Center after their son.
In addition to the refurbished library, the fund donated $10,000 more to the school to help with tuition.
The Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund has raised more than a million dollars in Danny's memory, more than $60,000 has gone to this school.
