WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- A stray dog is safe and sound in a Wilmington shelter after a community worked together to rescue her from the woods.

The dog, named Quarry, was first spotted by residents near Bellevue State park back in October.

Neighbors were worried about her being out in the freezing temperatures, so they tried to trap the dog to bring her in. However, she outsmarted them all.

That's when they called in an animal rescue activist for some high tech help.

His trap came complete with cameras and sensors that would send out an email when the dog was nearby.

"To make it work you need committed volunteers and you need good intelligence. That's what the cameras gave us. We knew when we could find her and what she was evading and how she was beating the traps," said Dennis Litwin.

By February, Quarry was safely caught.

She's was treated for a leg injury, and is now recovering in a shelter.

Donations are being accepted to help pay for Quarry's surgery.
