KEENE, N.H. (WPVI) -- A New Hampshire police officer busted through a car window to rescue what he thought was a baby trapped in a hot car.
But, it was something else.
Someone called 911 last month to report an infant left in a car at a shopping plaza in Keene.
Lt. Jason Short says, he thought he was looking at a lifeless child and shattered the window with his baton.
He realized it was a doll, when he tried to breathe into the baby's mouth.
" It felt like a baby. It looked like a baby," he laughs, "and everything about it was baby. I would never assume that it's a doll. I would always assume that it's a child. I would never do anything different," said Lt. Short.
The owner says she began collecting the lifelike dolls years ago, as a way to cope with her son's death.
