Embalmed head found in Beaver County, Pa.

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. -- The strange discovery of an embalmed head in the woods of western Pennsylvania has police mystified.

It was of a woman and was found in Beaver County.

Authorities released a sketch of what the woman might look like, saying she was likely in her 50's.

They do not know how long ago she may have died, or why.

Police are checking with medical schools in order to determine if the head came from a cadaver.

"The general assumption has to be made that a funeral home or a mortician would have been involved as far as the embalming. However as remote as it may be we can't eliminate any possibilities," said Anthony Berosh, Beaver County District Attorney.

Anyone who was involved could face criminal charges for theft or abuse of a corpse.
