FDA investigating safety of hand sanitizer ingredient

The Food and Drug Administration says it is investigating the safety of the most common active ingredient in hand sanitizers.

The agency says it wants more studies to determine if Ethyl Alcohol is safe and effective.

Hand sanitizers are used by millions every day.

The FDA has banned a lesser used ingredient called triclosan, which can be absorbed through the skin.
