PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden were in Philadelphia on Wednesday on one of their personal missions - fighting cancer.

The Bidens co-chair The Cancer Initiative. It's an effort to get researchers to share their findings and to translate research into treatments faster.

They took part in a discussion about new ideas in cancer care.

They urged the audience of oncologists, bio-tech company executives, and cancer survivors to keep pushing for greater exchange of information and they spoke about progress, especially with treatments like immunotherapy.

The Bidens, who lost their son Beau to brain cancer, also urge everyone to always keep the patients in mind.
