The nation's pediatricians are taking a strong stand against drinking during pregnancy.

The Academy of Pediatrics says any alcohol can be dangerous to a fetus.

And since more than a third of pregnancies are unplanned, according to the CDC, women trying to conceive should stay away from drinking entirely.

Alcohol can cause serious developmental delays because a growing fetus can't metabolize it.

Therefore, pediatricians are now putting their foot down.

The new guideline also spells out how doctors can recognize the physical, behavioral, and mental abnormalities that show up in fetal alcohol syndrome.

Because it's impossible to tell how much alcohol is too much during pregnancy, doctors say there's only one sure course - no drinking for pregnant women.
