Bill Clinton clashes with protesters at rally for wife; Bernie Sanders scores key endorsement

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Bernie Sanders tried to woo union workers Thursday while Bill Clinton lent his star power to rally votes for his wife, Hillary, even tangling with protesters.

What started as stumping for his wife in an East Mt. Airy gym turned into Bill Clinton sparing with a protester angry about his 1994 crime bill that she claims hurt African Americas.

"I don't know how you would categorize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack, and sent them out into the street to murder other African American children," said Bill Clinton. "Maybe you thought they were good citizens - she didn't."

"Hilary doesn't deserve the black vote simply because at one point in time she called the black youth 'Super Predators.'

"She did not come out and even look for the black vote until we started addressing the issues of police violence of the unarmed killings of black men and women in this country," said Erica Mines, Philadelphia Coalition for Real Justice.

Unphased by the heated exchange, Bill Clinton shook hands after and spent the day courting African American clergy across town.

Over at the AFL-CIO Convention, Bernie Sanders scored a key endorsement from the Communication Workers of America.

"Thank you for standing out on picket lines, occasionally getting arrested, but for saying that every worker in this country has the right to be treated with respect and dignity," said Sanders.

But the Vermont senator hasn't quite sold Pennsylvania like his opponent.

"There are three unions that have endorsed Bernie, and 28 unions that have endorsed Hillary," said Ted Kirsch of the AFT Pennsylvania. "The numbers speak for themselves."

Things are only going to heat up more between the pair as our primary is less than three weeks away with 210 delegates up for grabs.
