HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. -- A small plane has crashed in Somerset County short of a runway at Central Jersey Regional Airport.

The FAA says the single-engine amateur-built Auriga aircraft plane came down in a yard off Sunnymeade Road in Hillsborough while it was trying to land at the Central Jersey Regional Airport in Manville Wednesday.

There is no immediate information on how many people were aboard.

Video from WABC-TV shows the wreckage of the plane upside down in a field with extensive damage, but with its fuselage mostly intact. The plane landed next to a patch of trees separated from the runway by railroad tracks.
