A 90-year-old man suffered serious injuries after his car was struck by a SEPTA train in Nether Providence Township, Delaware County.

NETHER PROVIDENCE, Pa. (WPVI) -- A 90-year-old man suffered serious injuries after his car was struck by a SEPTA train in Nether Providence Township, Delaware County.

It happened around 2:40 p.m. Sunday on the tracks in the 100 block of East Brookhaven Road.

Authorities arrived to find that the car was struck by a train on SEPTA's Media/Elwyn Regional Rail line.

The 90-year-old driver of the car had to be pulled from the wreckage. He was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in serious condition.

There were 20 passengers on-board the train.

One passenger complained of minor injuries. The remaining passengers were not harmed and were bussed to their destinations.

Police have not yet determined why the car was on the tracks.

Service on that rail line had been suspended for about an hour near the Wallingford Station but service has since been restored.
