Arson ruled in heavy fire damages home in New Castle County

BUTTONWOOD, Del. (WPVI) -- The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office has determined that a house fire in New Castle County was arson.

Crews responded at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the unit block of Buttonwood Street in Buttonwood, Delaware.

Upon arrival, officials said fire was showing from a single-family home located behind a church.

Officials said the home sustained heavy fire damage.

The fire was brought under control at 3:12 p.m., officials said.

The fire caused about $20,000 in damage to the property

The fire marshal says that an unknown person or persons intentionally ignited combustibles inside the vacant residence.

No injuries were reported.
