5th guilty plea in Atlantic County elder fraud case (PHOTOS)

TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- An aide at a southern New Jersey senior care company has admitted to conspiring to steal more than $100,000 from an elderly client.

Attorney General Christopher Porrino says 57-year-old Susan Hamlett pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy.

The Egg Harbor Township woman worked as an aide for "A Better Choice" in Atlantic County and is the fifth and final defendant to plead guilty in the investigation.

Among those who also pleaded guilty in the case was 64-year-old Barbara Lieberman, a prominent elder-law attorney. She was sentenced to 10 years behind bars last year after she pleaded guilty to money laundering.

Hamlett faces up to five years behind bars when she's sentenced on Oct. 21.

"By stealing the life savings of elderly clients who had no family to look out for them, these defendants placed themselves among the lowest of con artists," said Attorney General Christopher Porrino in a statement. "The victims are gone, but we've persisted in our quest for justice."

The others who have pleaded guilty include:

Jan Van Holt, 60, of Linwood, the former owner of A Better Choice, a company that offered in-home care and legal financial planning for senior citizens;

Sondra Steen, 61, of Linwood, Van Holt's sister, who helped run A Better Choice; and

William Price, 58, of Linwood, a former county social worker who conspired with the others to steal from an elderly couple.
