2 dead in crash on New Jersey Turnpike in Woolwich Township ID'd

WOOLWICH TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Police say two people have been identified that died after a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound New Jersey Turnpike in Gloucester County.

The crash happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday in Woolwich Township.

According to police, a 46-year-old driver in a Toyota Sienna was stopped in the left lane as a result of a posted lane closure.

A 21-year-old driver in a Volkswagen Passat was behind the Sienna, when 24-year-old Nishank Shaw of Woodbridge, N.J., the driver in a Toyota Avalon traveling south, struck the rear of the Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen then hit the Toyota Sienna before striking a concrete barrier and erupting in flames.

Police say two passengers in the Volkswagen, 21-year-old Rob Critelli of Summit, New Jersey and 20-year-old Christopher Calderone of Brick, New Jersey became trapped in the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.

All southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed until around 10:00 p.m.

So far, there are no charges and the investigation is ongoing.
