WARMINSTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Bucks County teacher is out on bond after being charged with having an inappropriate romantic relationship with a student.
33-year-old Michael Swider of Southampton is on leave from William Tennent High School.
Warminster police say the long-time social studies teacher allegedly kissed a 17-year-old female student and was carrying on and ongoing romantic relationship with her.
They also said Swider and the teen would meet after school and have sexually explicit conversations.
Detectives say they thwarted a plan for the two to meet up at a hotel for sex.
Action News spoke with a member of the community who said, "It's chilling to me. Thank God my kids are out of school...blessed that I never had any encounters like that. God help the person if that were my child," said Nancy Mayer.
Swider turned himself in and later posted bail. He is cooperating with the police.
School Superintendent Joyce Mundy issued the following statement:
"We are extremely saddened by the situation...Our concern is always first and foremost focused on our students."
She also said, there will be counselors at the school Wednesday to talk to students if they have any questions.
