WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The West Philadelphia building that became encased in ice following a fire last week is coming down.

Chopper 6 HD flew over the demolition at 52nd and Locust on Monday.

A large portion of the building was already reduced to rubble, though some of the ice that made the building famous could be seen.

The street will be closed to traffic for a week while crews work.

Sidewalks will be shut down for at least 3 weeks.

The fire erupted last Monday, February 16th, at the Locust Medical Center on the 200 block of South 52nd Street.

Water from fire hoses instantly froze. It was three degrees outside with a wind chill of 16 below zero when the fire erupted.

Neighboring buildings, streets, power lines and cars were also frozen.
