OLNEY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police conducting a traffic stop in Olney opened fire on a male suspect who they say pointed a gun at officers.

It happened around 9:30 Wednesday night along the 100 block of West Champlost Avenue.

Authorities say 35th district officers were conducting a vehicle stop and told the driver, a man in his 50s, to exit the vehicle.

A brief struggle ensued and police say the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at officers.

It's unclear if the suspect fired a shot but both officers fired their weapons striking the man multiple times.

The suspect was taken to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

No officers were injured.

Authorities say a gun and bag containing what's believed to be marijuana were both recovered.

Police continue to investigate.
