COLLINGDALE, Pa. (WPVI) -- A police chase ended with an SUV slamming into a Delaware County home Wednesday morning, and the crash left a trail of wreckage across the neighborhood.

The suspect's Chevrolet Suburban hit two other cars before crashing into the house on 100 block of Chester Pike in Collingdale.

Police say the man jumped out and made a run for it before he was caught.

Tinicum Township Police Chief Steven Edmiston tells us, "He was driving erratically and from what I understand he almost struck a couple vehicles. That's what prompted the officer to try and stop."

The chase started about 7:15 this morning. Officers followed the car from the motel district on 291 in Tinicum Township to Chester Pike where the driver crashed.

Chief Edmiston says, "The occupant of the vehicle exited the vehicle, ran behind the houses. Officers pursued the subject."

Officers eventually arrested the man. They also found a gun tossed into a yard, but police have not determined if the gun belongs to the suspect.

The driver of the car hit on Chester Pike did have minor injuries. Police say they are just thankful no one was seriously hurt.

"It's extremely dangerous. You try to do what you can to minimize any hazards to other people that are on the roadway. But at the same time you don't know what this guy had just done or what possibly had happened," Edmiston said.

Collingdale police and accident investigation are looking into the chase and crash, which is standard procedure.
