NWS: Tornado touched down in Pa., Delaware
SHARTLESVILLE, Pa (WPVI) -- National Weather Service officials have confirmed that a tornado touched down Monday evening in Berks County, Pennsylvania and Sussex County, Delaware.
NWS officials say a storm survey found a damage path of trees in Shartlesville, Berks County that were located on private property behind Mountain Springs Campground on the southern slope of Blue Mountain.
The most concentrated damage, they say, consisted of several large hardwood trees that were uprooted and snapped at a private residence off of nearby Mountain Road.
The direction of the felled trees exhibited a rotational pattern consistent with tornadic damage, the NWS said.
Several videos were posted online showing what appeared to be funnel clouds near Shartlesville, which is about 75 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, officials say a storage building at the Delaware Electric Cooperative site on U.S. Route 13 in Greenwood, Sussex County sustained some damage.
Four structures on the northwest side of the intersection of Sugar Hill and St. Johnstown Roads were also damaged.
Most of the damage affected farm buildings; however one nearby home had damage to its porch.
National Weather Service officials say that visual evidence, along with radar data received during the storm, helped to confirm their finding of a tornado that impacted a specific area of western Sussex County. The visual examination was enhanced by a DEMA aerial drone, which provided an overhead view of wooded areas that would have been difficult to examine from ground level.

The storms moved through Monday afternoon and evening, and also caused damage, power outages and tornado warnings in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware.
