PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- After six years of service and dedication, Chance the arson dog is retiring from the Philadelphia Fire Department.

The hard-working black lab has been a vital member of the Arson and Explosives Task Force.

Firefighters say he detected accelerants at more than 600 fire scenes over the course of his career.

But as he approaches his ninth birthday, he is stepping aside to let a younger pup take over.

In his golden years Chance will continue to live with his partner, Lieutenant George Werez.
