MIDDLETOWN, Del. (WPVI) -- An abused pit bull is recovering after doctors were forced to amputate one of his legs Tuesday.
One-year-old Brutus was dropped off at Response-A-Bull Rescue and Shelter in Stanton, Delaware with a heavy chain around his neck and a completely shattered back leg.
The non-profit rushed Brutus to Middletown Veterinary Hospital and is now asking for help paying for his surgery.
"(Brutus is) quite a serious, unexpected, major medical expense. As a small non profit organization, we exist solely based on donations," said Caitlyn Reynolds from Response-A-Bull Rescue and Shelter.
Workers say Brutus is extremely friendly and happy, despite what happened to him.
He licks, wags his tail, and even smiles at strangers.
The rescue is also looking for someone to adopt him once he's healed.
