Man found dead at Northern Liberties recording studio remembered as family man

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Family members said music was Robert Slocum's outlet and that he was constantly in the studio working on beats.

But Tyleen Wood, Slocum's cousin, said this time he didn't return home from the Superior Sound Studios.

"Music was his life," said Wood. "Every time I saw him, he was going down to the studio."

The 38-year-old's body was discovered Saturday morning, with multiple stab wounds and bullets to both his head and back.

"Whoever you are, whoever did this to my brother, you took the last thing from me that I can remember my mom and dad," said Miriam Barry, Slocum's sister.

With both of their parents deceased, Barry choked back tears as she remembered her brother.

She said he wasn't perfect, but that he had been turning his life around, focused on his music and providing for his five kids. His youngest daughter celebrated her first birthday the day his body was discovered.

"It was sadness, people standing in disbelief, but we loved on the babies," Barry said. "But because of the mixed emotions, it wasn't what it could have been."

Police have not revealed a motive or disclose whether or not they think Slocum knew his killer.

His family said they don't know of anyone who may have had issues with him. They said they are now focused on helping his children heal.

"He was a family man," said Barry. "His kids can't see him again, I can't see my brother."

It is unclear at this point how long Slocum was dead before his body was discovered Saturday morning.
