VIDEO: Small plane crashes on California beach

A small plane came down right on a crowded Southern California beach this holiday weekend.

The single engine plane tried to land, but flipped over after it hit shallow water in Carlsbad Saturday.

A 12-year-old boy on the beach was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gash to his head.

The 23-year-old pilot was not hurt.

The plane lost engine power before it crashed.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash.
