WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A suspect who led police on a chase was shot by officers early Saturday morning.

It happened before 4 a.m. in West Philadelphia.

Police inside an unmarked vehicle observed a muzzle flash and heard multiple gun shots coming from the area of a black Toyota at 56th and Haverford.

The officers cautiously approached the vehicle which was occupied by three males, and one male standing outside of the car.

Police say the male outside the car began walking away. Officers ordered that person to stop, but the suspect continue to flee with one officer chasing him.

A second officer was still at the vehicle. The three males exiting the car were told to raise their hands.

Police say the 25-year-old driver refused to cooperate, and had his hand concealed down in his waist band area.

The suspect was told to remove his hand, and that's when he took a step toward the officer, police say.

The officer believed the suspect was armed, and fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the upper arm.

All three suspects were then ordered to the ground.

Meanwhile, the officer on the foot chase, called for assistance as he struggled with the suspect.

The second officer then ran to his aide. During that time, one of the suspects on the ground fled the scene.

Police say that suspect may have possibly fled with the gun.

The suspect who was shot in the arm was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

One officer suffered a minor injury during the scuffle. That officer was treated and released from the hospital.

The injured suspect, and two other suspects were taken into custody.

A woman was also taken into custody, who police say made threatening remarks.

She allegedly made a phone call to police from the scene threatening to harm them over the shooting of her brother.

She was taken into custody for terroristic threats, police say.

Police are still searching for the suspect who fled the scene.
