9/11 Memorial moves through Montgomery County in profound procession
NORRISTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- It's a moving memorial: a sculpture of two hands grasping a piece of the rubble that came down on September 11th, 2001.
Today, all hands were on deck to move it.
The sculpture, designed by Sassona Norton, was originally located at the Montgomery County Courthouse. It was later moved to the Emergency Operations Center in Eagleville due to construction.
However, this new location provided no access for the public to view the gripping piece of art.
The decision was made to move it to its new home at Elmwood Park in Norristown.
The relocation effort was led by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and other public officials in partnership with local police and fire personnel.
Local laborers such as members of Ironworkers Local 405 also dedicated time to moving the massive monument.
A 9/11 memorial ceremony will be held at its base on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10:00am. The address is 1325 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401.
