Chestnut Hill small businesses are in the spotlight during the 'Royal Rummage'

CHESTNUT HILL, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- For the last six decades, small businesses have held a Royal Rummage in Chestnut Hill.

The sidewalk sale is to encourage customers to come out during the summer.

All of this is to build bonds in the community and to support local business owners.

"Over 60 years they've been doing this tradition for the small businesses. The summer can be slower. It can be a little quiet because people do tend to go away... so this is a nice way to move some inventory, but also make it fun and exciting and look festive out on the street," said Courtney O'Neill, Executive Director of Chestnut Hill Business District.

"If you shop small and local, your dollars tend to stay in the community. These people are our neighbors. They're our friends. They're are colleagues," she continued.

"I remember coming to Royal Rummage as a child back in the seventies and early eighties, and...you find the fun things that you might not have been able to afford to get at normal price...It's just a happy place to come visit," said Susanna Forjohn, Co-owner of Giraffe.
