Havertown woman honors her father in every step of 36 mile run

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Havertown's Caitlin Nelson was on a mission this morning.

She ran 36 miles, for her 36th birthday, while raising $3,600 for Blood Cancer United.

All of this was in memory of her father, who she shared a passion for running with.

"His name is Nils Nelson...He had prostate cancer, which he was in remission for, but then...he had blood cancer. I was actually his bone marrow donor. So it was just kind of a full circle moment. We used to run together and definitely a passion and a love that we both shared," said Caitlin Nelson.

"I think I'm just proud of myself...My dad was certainly a huge advocate for running in my life and he was at many finish lines. It hit different that he wasn't physically there like I would have loved him to be...I always say...find people that during your hardest moments will be in your corner," she continued.
