Man shot dead at close range in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man was gunned down and left for dead in a vacant lot in North Philadelphia early Friday morning.

It happened along the 3200 block of Fairhill Street just before 2 a.m.

Police officers found more than 25 spent shell casings at the scene.

Most of the shell casings were lying a few inches away from the victim, some actually on his body, indicating just how close the shooter or shooters were when they opened fire.

The 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in the chest and at least once in the face.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police hope to review surveillance cameras in the area as they search for a suspect and a motive.
