
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia Police officer is hospitalized after being injured while investigating a stolen car in the city's Port Richmond neighborhood.
It happened at the Royal Farms on the 2500 block of Church Street, near Aramingo Avenue.
Police were called there around 11 p.m. Saturday to break up a crowd.
Upon arrival, officers investigated a black BMW that was determined to be stolen.
As an officer approached the driver's side and held the door open, the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle, striking a marked police car.
The officer's hand became caught between the door and the vehicle.
The injured officer was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated for a laceration and broken finger, as well as shoulder and hip pain.
He was reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody and faces charges including assault on police and vehicle theft.
