Fire erupts after gas line struck in Evesham Twp. neighborhood

EVESHAM TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Several homes were evacuated in Burlington County on Monday morning after a gas line was struck.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. on Iron Gate Road in Evesham Township, New Jersey.

Officials say a crew inadvertently ruptured an underground gas line while conducting excavation work, causing a significant leak.

Chopper 6 was over the scene, where a massive flame could be seen right next to a construction vehicle that ignited due to the escaping gas.

The fire has since been extinguished.

No injuries have been reported.

Road closures and detours are expected in the area of Willow Ridge and the surrounding streets.
