SEPTA Regional Rail commuters: Other options to think about

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA has sidelined one-third of its railroad cars over a structural problem which means a lot of delays and fewer trains for commuters.

But there are ways to make it to work on time and get back home for dinner.

Let's run down what's going on and what you can expect if you are heading for the Regional Rails:

Most lines are an enhanced Saturday schedule. That's a weekend scheduled with maybe an extra train or two during the rush hour. But still a lot less service than a normal weekday.

Some lines are strictly on a Saturday service with no extra service.

The Cynwyd Line is not running at all. They are shuttle busing for the duration of this situation.

So we are encouraging to you think outside the box with these options:

If you are traveling to Chester County - like the Coatesville area - you could use Amtrak's Keystone Line which has extra service.

If you are traveling to Norristown - instead of the Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line, try using the Norristown High Speed Line which has extra service.

If you are traveling to and from the Delaware County suburbs - maybe you use the Media/Elwyn or Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail Lines, try the SEPTA Route 101 or Route 102 Trolleys, which have extra service.

And SEPTA's Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line subways also have extra service. There is also plenty of parking.

There are options. It's just a matter of finding the right one for you.
