TIOGA-NICETOWN (WPVI) -- Police say a shooting victim driving himself to the hospital crashed an SUV into a tractor-trailer in Philadelphia's Tioga-Nicetown section.
The crash happened before 3 a.m. Wednesday at 15th and Pike Street.
Officers arrived to find the 47-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
His Chevy Trailblazer had crashed head-on into a parked tractor-trailer.
Police say the shooting took place less than two miles from the crash at Greene and Manheim streets.
The victim was trapped inside the vehicle, and rescuers had to cut him out of the tangled metal.
Medical personnel discovered he had been shot in the left torso and right arm.
The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.
Police believe drugs played a factor in the shooting.
"Inside the 2003 Chevy blazer that the victim was driving, you could see in plain view several packets of what appears to be crack cocaine," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Police are searching for the shooter and checking security cameras in the area.
