Project Home breaks ground on 2415 North Broad

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Project Home is providing a new space for people trying to rebuild their lives.

Mayor Jim Kenney was joined by Project Home's Sister Mary Scullion and other leaders on Tuesday to break ground at 2415 North Broad.

The facility will have 88 apartments for men and women who were formerly homeless.

Officials say having a safe place to live helps those who've gone through hard times, thrive and give back to others.

Mayor Kenney says, "Every one of those individuals who find themselves in that homeless situation, is a human being with a story. And if you understand their story, you understand how they got where they are. And in many cases, it's not their own fault."

Penny is a Project Home participant, who says, "I want to help other youths, like me, who have been through a lot of challenges in their life. And I just want to let them know that they do have somebody by their side - someone who's been through it too."

Project Home says the location of its new apartment building is no coincidence. It's within walking distance to major SEPTA routes and Temple University.

In addition to the apartments, the ground floor of 2415 North Broad Street will have retail spaces, furthering the expansion of the North Broad Street corridor.
