SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 34-year-old man, parking his girlfriend's car, was ambushed, chased, then shot while trying to get away from his alleged attackers in Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on the 5600 block of Angora Terrace.

Police say someone opened fire on the victim as he drove up to his girlfriend's house.

That suspect walked up to the driver's side and fired at least five times.

The victim managed to get out of the car, and then ran about thirty feet across the street.

According to police, the shooter then chased him, firing at least 10 more times, before striking the victim in the head.

He then fell between two parked cars. Those cars were also riddled with bullets

When police arrived, they rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in critical, but stable condition.

A witness told police that a gray minivan with a temporary tag was seen fleeing the scene.

Police say they stopped two suspects after surveying the area in the 5700 block of Baltimore Avenue.

Officers observed a 2008 gray Dodge Caravan that fit the description of the fleeing vehicle.

Police say the victim was found with crack cocaine at the hospital.

Detectives are checking private surveillance cameras in the area for information.
