ESPN: 2017 NFL Draft coming to Philadelphia, press conference Thursday

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The NFL Draft is coming to Philadelphia, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The National Football League, the City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Philadelphia Eagles announced they will hold a press conference Thursday at City Hall.

While the topic of the press conference was not disclosed, Schefter says this is where it will be made official - the 2017 NFL Draft will be held in Philly.

Speaking at the press conference will be:

Peter O'Reilly, Senior Vice President of Events, National Football League

Jim Kenney, Mayor, City of Philadelphia

Don Smolenski, Philadelphia Eagles President

Ron Jaworski, Philadelphia Eagles NFL Legend

Julie Coker-Graham, President, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, the Philadelphia Sports Congress and Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau told Action News, "We definitely think it would be an exciting opportunity but we aren't able to confirm any of the reports that are floating around."

Back in April, sources told Schefter that Philadelphia was the leading candidate to host the 2017 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia has hosted the NFL Draft many times in the past, but not since 1960 at the Warwick Hotel.

While it looks like Philadelphia will host the NFL Draft, the Eagles will not have a pick in the first round.

The Eagles traded their first pick of the 2017 draft to the Cleveland Browns for the second overall pick in 2016 draft.
