Sebastien Le Toux will retire after signing a one-day contract with the Philadelphia Union, the MLS club announced on Monday.
Le Toux, 34, was one of the club's first players after being selected in the 2009 expansion draft and went on to record 50 goals and 50 assists over two stints with the Union.
In addition to his ceremonial contract, the forward will also become the first member of the Union's newly created "Ring of Honor," with a ceremony set for June 23.
"Philadelphia is where I had the most opportunities on and off the field," Le Toux said in a statement. "It is where I found career success with the Philadelphia Union, met my wife, and found my forever home with friends, family, and fans that have become family."
Le Toux played with Philadelphia from 2010-11, then after a year split between Vancouver and New York, returned to play another three and a half years with the Union before moving to Colorado.
The Frenchman parted ways with D.C. United last August, and after not signing on with a new club this season, has decided to retire.
"As Sebastien announces his retirement from professional soccer today, we at the Philadelphia Union would like to congratulate him on his successful career and thank him for his contributions to our club," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "He deserves this recognition for what he has meant to the Union and our fans over the years, and we'd like to wish him and his family the absolute best moving forward."
Le Toux scored 60 MLS goals in 271 league games, including the playoffs, and was named to the MLS Best XI in 2010, when he scored a career-high 14 times.
